The Fisgas de Ermelo are the most emblematic site in the protected area of ​​the Alvão Natural Park.

It is one of the largest waterfalls in Europe, with a drop of approximately 400 meters, set against quartzite rocks approximately 480 million years old. It was the fracture of these hard rocks that allowed the Olo River to "sink" into them, giving rise to the popular name by which the most beautiful waterfall in mainland Portugal is known.

TO VISIT

It is a place of high scientific, educational and heritage value, and associated with a notable tourist vocation, in the field of Nature Tourism. The presence of fossil traces on these rocks, left by marine organisms that are now extinct, can also be seen as a kind of "illustration" of a distant era, when life existed only in the sea, in contrast to the exceptional biodiversity currently known in this protected area.
